On 6th March 2026, Animal Equality UK delivered over 315,000 petition signatures to the UK Government at Downing Street, calling for an end to foie gras imports.

Activists from PETA UK, FOUR PAWS and Viva! joined the hand-in in solidarity, united by a single message: if foie gras is too cruel to produce here, it’s too cruel to import.

Foie gras production involves the force-feeding of ducks and geese, causing severe physical and psychological harm. The practice has been illegal in the UK for decades due to the violent production methods involved – yet the UK continues to import and sell the product. That contradiction cannot continue.

Just days before the last General Election, the Government pledged to ban foie gras imports. That promise is now at risk. Ongoing EU-UK trade negotiations could strip the UK of its ability to ban foie gras imports if an animal welfare carve-out is not secured – the risk to the ban is not just now, it could permanently prevent a ban from ever coming to fruition.

The public has spoken – now the Government must listen and follow through on its pledge.

Animal Equality UK is calling on the Government to honour its commitment and ensure an animal welfare carve-out is included in any EU-UK trade agreement. Supporters are urged to contact the Department for Business and Trade directly, sharing a polite message and images from the petition hand-in using the hashtag #BanFoieGrasDBT across X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or via email.

We will not stop until we get the foie gras import ban. Animals cannot afford for this promise to be broken.

Join your voice to those asking for a ban on the import of this cruel product. Sign the petition today.

END THE CRUELTY

Foie gras is immensely cruel. Its production causes ducks and geese severe physical and psychological pain. You can protect ducks and geese by opting for plant-based alternatives.
