Mid-Year 2025 Impact Report
Six months in.
Millions of lives changed.
This is your compassion in action.
Dear Animal Advocate,
In just six months, your compassion has created a global impact. You exposed cruelty in dairy and goat farms, moved millions in Spain and Mexico to reconsider dairy consumption, and pushed the European Union to review its laws governing farmed animals. Your voice has been loud and clear, with global protests demanding that companies honour their pledges to end the use of cages.
I’m eager to see what we’ll accomplish in the next six months. Thank you for standing with us for animals.

ABOUT ANIMAL EQUALITY
We are a team of committed activists dedicated to creating a world where all animals are respected and protected.
Our mission
Animal Equality is an international organisation working with society, governments, and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals.
Our work
Animal Equality uses four strategies: exposing cruelty via investigative exposés, advocating for stronger laws, pushing companies to adopt animal protection policies, and encouraging people to reduce or eliminate animal product consumption.
18+ years helping animals globally
Founded in 2006, Animal Equality now has offices in eight countries: the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, and the United Kingdom.

Love Veg, Animal Equality’s plant‑based programme
Choosing plant-based food is the best way to end animal suffering. Join Love Veg for recipes and tips to guide your journey.

Online and in person, Animal Equality is making plant-based living accessible and inspiring.
In Mexico, we launched the Guide to Eating Better at University. In the US, we published a free cookbook with 24 plant-based recipes from around the world.

We brought 16 free cooking workshops to over 150 families and dietetics students in Mexico. We even reached new audiences with an info booth at Billie Eilish’s concerts in Germany.

“I was awakened through your advocacy work and became vegan,
and the Love Veg programme made it so easy for me!”

Ending Factory Farming
Factory farms confine hens, mutilate piglets, and separate calves from their mothers, leading to their painful deaths in slaughterhouses. Together, we will put an end to this cruelty.
- Spain: Our new dairy farm investigation led to six billboards in the Madrid metro, encouraging over five million people per month to choose plant-based milk.

- Mexico: We reached another five million people through billboards in the Mexico City metro, showcasing the truth behind milk. We also criminalised animal abuse in Chiapas.
- Brazil: We ensured that future environmental policies include animal protection and delivered 80,000+ petition signatures to Congress, supporting a bill against cages. We also published a report on the EU-Mercosur Agreement’s impact on animals.

- India: We revealed the cruelty in the goat meat industry and submitted recommendations to the Government for more stringent regulations.
- United Kingdom: We ensured animals are taken into account during future planning decisions, potentially stopping future factory farms. We also filed a complaint following 135,000 deaths on a Scottish salmon farm.

Europe: Thanks to Animal Equality, the European Commission has begun reviewing farmed animal protections. We are preparing recommendations advocating for the prohibition of cages and male chick killing.

Ending Cages for Hens and Pigs
Farmers confine millions of mother pigs and hens in tiny cages where they can’t move freely. Despite bans in some US states and countries, many still suffer in extreme confinement.

Our investigation exposed cruelty at a Kansas pig farm linked to supermarket giant Ahold Delhaize. This sparked a campaign and global protests over its unfulfilled cage-free pledge. We also started a global campaign urging hospitality group Marriott to follow through on its commitment against cages for hens. Demonstrations erupted in Mexico, Brazil, the US, and the UK.

In the UK, we launched an expert-backed report on farrowing crates, cages so small that mother pigs cannot even turn around; backed by 120 hours of evidence gathered by Animal Equality, and endorsed by leading pig experts, we took the opportunity to urge the Government to ban these cruel cages. In India, our partnerships with hotel chains like Hilton and Hyatt have led to a reduction in their use of eggs from caged hens by up to 25%. In Spain, the number of hens in cages dropped by two million over the past year.

“To all the whistleblowers, I want you to know that your work is having a real-world impact. I saw the unsettling footage of a slaughterhouse and became a total vegetarian, never looking back since. Please keep fighting; you are saving lives.”
-Animal Equality supporter from the UK
Stopping Male Chick Killing
Male chicks in the egg industry are killed because they cannot lay eggs and cannot be raised for meat. In-ovo sexing technology offers an alternative by identifying the sex of embryos before hatching.

In Italy, the 2022 ban on male chick killing led to another milestone this year: the Ministry of Agriculture has announced guidelines for implementing in-ovo sexing.
Ending Force-Feeding for Foie Gras
The foie gras industry force-feeds ducks and geese, causing their livers to swell up to ten times their normal size. These diseased livers are then sold as an expensive dish.
In Spain, we introduced a proposal to ban the force-feeding of ducks and geese. We also filed a complaint against INTERPALM – a foie gras producers’ association – for misleading consumers about the cruelty behind its products.
Ending Horse Slaughter
Every year, thousands of US horses are sent to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered for meat.

In the US, we’re promoting the SAFE Act, which would end the export of American horses for meat. And we’re inviting more American citizens to contact their representatives in support of the ban.
Bringing Media Attention to Animals
Several news organisations have highlighted our work for animals.
An Animal Equality Scottish salmon farming investigation aired on Italy’s most-watched investigative show – Report Rai 3 – reaching over six million viewers. As a result, RSPCA Assured suspended one site and initiated an investigation into another.
In the US, CBS News showcased our investigation into a Kansas pig farm. This report revealed to millions what ads don’t show: mother pigs in cages so small they can’t turn around.
