Factory Farming: It’s Time Our MPs Faced the Truth
Too few MPs act for animals and it is Animal Equality’s mission to change that.
Every year in the UK, around 1.2 billion land animals and up to 77 million fish are farmed and slaughtered for human consumption – many in conditions so extreme, they would shock the public if fully exposed. Yet, despite this vast scale of suffering, many Members of Parliament know little about how these animals live and die.
Too often, decision-makers adopt a ‘see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’ approach to factory farming. Whether through lack of information or political convenience, they turn away from the grim realities hidden behind farm doors. But animals are not spared from this evil. We need our elected representatives to know the realities and use their power to help animals.
MPs must speak up for the mother pigs trapped in cages so small they cannot turn around, the babies who are taken from their mothers and mutilated without anaesthetic or pain relief, the male chicks and calves deemed useless by the dairy and egg industries, and the fish trapped in disease-ridden underwater cages circling endlessly around and around.
We need you to tell them that this is not a niche issue. It is cruelty happening at a national scale, every single day. Misery is taking place on every single factory farm, it is inherent to the way these industries operate. The time to act is now – factory farmed animals can’t wait any longer.
