Speak up for chickens
On the 10th of November, animal lovers from across the country will be travelling
to Westminster to speak to their MP about one animal in particular: chickens.
Fast-growing chickens suffer immensely on factory farms
Each year, over one billion chickens are born to live their lives out in misery on UK factory farms. The majority of these chickens are bred to be ‘fast-growing’, meaning their body will be pushed to the brink – growing far too fast, far too quickly. They are slaughtered at just over one month old.
The chickens born into these bodies suffer immensely. Growing so much each day, many will collapse under their own weight. Others will die before they can even be sent to slaughter, for reasons including stress and heart failure.
In December of last year, the UK Government said it was considering the possibility of phasing out this breed of chicken. It has been months since then, and we have seen no updates or plans from the government. While it stalls, these chickens will continue to live immensely painful and miserable lives.

Animal advocacy group UK Voters for Animals is organising a mass lobby day at Parliament on the 10th of November. By talking face-to-face with your MP, you can tell them directly how much animal protection means to you and why the government must work to help the animals trapped in the animal agriculture system.
